Vibes 101: A Beginner’s Guide to Vibrators

Welcome to Vibes 101. Class is officially in session.

If you’re reading this, it probably means you’re ready to step into the exciting world of vibrators. Congratulations! Let’s chat through everything you need to know.

First, let’s get into the types of vibrators out there. Because if the internet has taught me anything, it’s that when it comes to getting off, there is something for EVERYONE. So much so, that the choice becomes overwhelming. I’m going to break it down for you.

Classic Vibrators

A fabulous choice for the vibrator newbies! These vibes are super versatile so you can find exactly how you ~like it~. They can be used for both internal and external stimulation, i.e. you can use them inside your vagina for internal/g-spot stimulation or outside your vagina on your clitoris. These vibrators usually have multiple vibration settings and intensities.

Of course, our go-to classic vibrator is The Violet. She’s a little different to your  average classic vibrator. She’s a precision vibrator who’s ultra-flexible to suit all body types.

Bullet Vibrators

Another awesome choice for beginner’s. Bullet vibes are super small and discreet and incredible for clitoral stimulation. They’re a good way to dip your toes into the world of vibrators. Due to their small design, bullets are not always the most powerful of vibrators, so if you’re looking for something with a bit more buzz, I’d go for a classic vibrator.

Clitoral Suction Vibrators

Did you know there’s over 10,000 nerve endings in your clitoral structure? That means there’s a lot of room for that feel-good pleasure. Clitoral suction vibes have a sensation unlike any other vibe. They send tiny little air pulses to your clitoris which make for mind-blowing orgasms.

The Blossom is a clitoral suction vibe that is also super discreet. It’s super cute design makes it perfect for first-time vibers.

Love Egg Vibrators

These vibes are designed for internal stimulation. Have you ever seen those Kegel exercisers that you insert into your vagina to work on your pelvic floor? It’s a similar concept to that, except with a little more buzz to them. They’re usually quite small and sleek, and thus super approachable for first time users.

Dildo Vibrators

Dildo vibrators are a classic. These are the vibrators which resemble the phallic member the most. They’re often highly realistic, but also come in fun colours as well. These vibes are best for internal stimulation (but there’s nothing wrong with using them for external play too!). For newbies, these might be the most ‘overwhelming’ of the vibrator options as they are usually a bit larger and less discreet.

Other Vibrators

Okay, I’m cheating a bit, but I could be writing this for days if I were to list off all the vibrators that are out in the world. If I’ve learnt one thing about sex it’s that there is a vibrator to suit every need and every kink. Here’s just a few;

  • Necklace vibrators- a tiny bullet vibrator which can also be worn as a necklace so you’re never without.
  • Pantie vibrators- vibrators which curve to your vagina and can be placed in your panties.
  • Finger vibrators- a tiny vibrator which attaches to your finger like a ring.
  • Tongue vibrators- a vibrator which slips over your partners tongue and can be used for oral vibration stimulation
  • Vibrating butt plugs- for anal stimulation
  • Tentacle vibrators- that look like octopus tentacles for more kinky play

Seriously. The list goes on and on.

I got my first ever vibrator when I was 18 years old. Call it a right of passage. My friends and I all hopped in a car and went down to this tiny little adult shop in the middle of nowhere. I bought the smallest vibrator I could find. It was a bullet vibrator, bright pink and it had almost no power at all. Like, less than an electric toothbrush powerful. I remember the first time I used it, thinking ‘wow…is this it?’.

Since then, I’ve become a lot more acquainted with the big, bad world of vibrators. I’d love to hear, what was your first vibrator like?
